It has been almost a week since we, as an expedition team, returned to civilization. But, for some reason, I couldn’t bear reaching out to the world via social media, email, etc., because I knew it would burst the bubble – it would mean that it’s over…
I didn’t even upload my photos until yesterday, and sifting through them, although bringing back floods of memories and hilarious stories, I realized would be so difficult to put into words… Even the experience itself is going to be tough to fully process for myself, let alone explain my feelings to others. I will spend a bit more time to gather my thoughts, and will soon post a blog. But for now, I thought that I would just share a few pictures.
When looking at my pictures please understand that every participant will be taking something different away. For me, although climbing this mountain was probably the most physically-challenging thing I’ve ever done (considering that it is nowhere near my wheelhouse), it was not the feat of summiting that had the most emotional effect on me – it was the people. It was a roll of the dice, the most unlikely blend of people, and I now have an expedition family whom I miss already. It is THEY who made this experience as profound as it was. I look forward to sharing, not only the stories of us on the mountain, but also the stories of what these particular soldiers have done and gone through for us to be able to live the lives we choose.
